  Biography:
 

As a student, Derek worked as the weekend meteorologist for WEYI-NBC in Flint, Michigan. Following graduation, he was promoted to weekday morning meteorologist where he worked to perfect his skills. Derek holds the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist designation from the American Meteorological Society, their highest designation for broadcast meteorologists. Derek's philanthropic interests brought him to Africa, where he later moved after 3-1/2 years at WEYI-NBC. Derek was recently voted by South Africans as the Country's Best Newcomer.
