Geology Department

The CMU Department of Geology offers degree programs leading to majors and minors in geology and in hydrogeology/environmental geology. Our department is also a vital component of CMU's interdisciplinary Environmental Studies program.

Our Mission is "...to provide students with the background and critical thinking skills necessary to make informed decisions about earth systems-related problems, and to provide majors with the opportunity to obtain an excellent geological education in preparation for future careers in academia, industry, or government service." To this end, the CMU Department of Geology places a high value on maintaining a rigorous program of study that incorporates field and laboratory-based research and "hands-on" learning into the undergraduate curriculum.
